Product Details
+This garment has been made using vintage French linen/cotton (approximately 50-70 years old, but in perfect condition). Each item is cut, sewn, and finished personally by Oliver in Paris. Each garment is accompanied by a cotton garment bag for storage.
The fabric has been naturally dyed to a soft shade of olive using chlorophyll extract. The natural dyeing process, without the use of industrial softeners, leaves the fabric with a more rigid structure that quickly softens with wear; colour will change & fade with age.
This piece is a take on the classic French Chore Jacket, a melange of different years of the classic garment. However it is cut wide under the arm giving a looser fit than you would usually find on such a jacket. The patch pockets are all shaped for better use and to match up with the seams and natural lines of the jacket. All buttons are french vintage and all backing buttons are antique shell, these are hand shanked in french silk thread.
The buttonholes are also sewn by hand with slightly thicker French soie perlée. The collar has also been closed by hand giving a softer finish to the neckline. All reinforcement is done with handwoven cotton, no fusing or glue products are used in the piece, offering a more gracious way for the garment to age.
Features two large external patch pockets, and one smaller chest pocket.
Expertly crafted, with flat felled seams, and finished with hand-sewn button-holes complete with vintage buttons. Each piece comes with a swatch of fabric that can be used for continued repair and upkeep of the garment.
Made by hand in France by Oliver Church. Care instructions: hand wash, cold, with care.
Due to the nature of the fabric, slight surface imperfections may be visible. This is not considered a fault, but a rather a testament to the fabrics longevity.
- Oliver, who is originally from Auckland, worked at Garbstore in London and Casey Casey in Paris before launching his own brand, Singular Garments, in 2020. His designs — mostly shirts and jackets — lean towards the practical and durable and his clothes are designed to last a lifetime.
- Each element of Oliver's clothes is made by his own hand, from cutting the fabric to hand-sewing the buttonholes. His fabrics, using mostly vintage and antique cottons and linens, often between 50 and 150 years old, are sourced from markets around Paris. The age of the fabric adds both character and a sense of timelessness. Due to the nature of his production methods quantities are extremely limited and everything is made to order.
